Current data size is only the starting point for a long-lived backup target.
Measure current protected data
Exclude data you intentionally do not back up if that matches the policy.
Choose a growth case
Use a visible percentage or measured rate rather than an arbitrary oversized device.
Review periodically
Actual growth can be compared with the assumption.
